Celebrating New Additions & Important Roles of the Refuge System — The Nationwide Wildlife Refuge Affiliation



On October tenth, 2023, the Division of the Inside’s Secretary, Deb Haaland, gave the Toad Conservation Space in Wyoming and the Paint Rock River Nationwide Wildlife Refuge in Tennessee new acknowledgments beneath the Nationwide Wildlife Refuge System. With these two new additions, Wyoming’s and Tennessee’s NWRs give a grand complete of 570 nationwide wildlife refuges nationwide. The Toad Conservation Space, situated within the Laramie Plains of the Wyoming Basin, helps assist some of the endangered amphibians in North America: the Wyoming toad. Together with the Wyoming Toad, the Wyoming Toad Conservation Space additionally protects white-tailed prairie canine, pronghorns, and migratory birds. 

Bordering Tennessee and Alabama, the Paint Rock River watershed conserves quite a few species of crops and animals above and underground. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) describes the Paint Rock River watershed’s atmosphere as a mixture of terrestrial, aquatic, and karst. With this one-of-a-kind atmosphere kind, this refuge harbors many threatened and endangered species, resembling grey bats, Indiana bats, Tennessee cave salamanders, and Alabama cave shrimp. USFWS has recorded 100 varieties of fish and 50 varieties of freshwater mussels throughout the Paint Rock River watershed, along with these species that inhabit the world beneath the Earth’s floor.
