By Leslie Kinrys

Leslie Kinrys has cherished birds since her father put a Home Sparrow fledgling in her younger fingers. She lives and birds in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, with some journeys farther afield. She enjoys seeing all species of birds, however her favorites are hummingbirds.

Again in March, in Southwestern Florida, my husband (non-birder and good sport) and I drove to Large Cypress Nationwide Protect. We traveled alongside Alligator Alley. There are all the time plenty of birds to see on the best way, particularly waders. We determined to cease at H. P. Williams Wayside Park. It is a good spot for alligators, which we noticed that day. We determined to have a picnic lunch there. Sitting in a close-by tree, American Crows had been eyeing our sandwiches.

However it was a bit warbler who joined us for lunch. A Palm Warbler, in breeding plumage, hopped onto the tip of our desk. I believed that was uncommon habits as a result of warblers aren’t the kind of birds to strategy individuals. The same old, pleasant varieties are chickadees, nuthatches, and a few woodpeckers.

This warbler stored coming nearer and nearer, watching us the entire time. I advised my husband that it seemed prefer it was begging for meals. A crumb of bread had fallen on the desk. I flicked it in direction of the hen and it wolfed it up. Then, it got here nearer and stared at us some extra. I don’t prefer to encourage wildlife to beg for meals and I made a decision to disregard it. The warbler dropped beneath our desk and hopped round our ft, on the lookout for extra crumbs, earlier than it flew off.

A feminine Pileated Woodpecker

We noticed a number of extra birds alongside the boardwalk. We had an Osprey, Turkey, and Black Vultures, hovering overhead. A Crimson-shouldered Hawk was crying because it hunted. A Pileated Woodpecker slipped by the timber. Then, it was time to go dwelling.
